Welcome to the website of Sedgefield & District Citizens Advice Bureau

Our Mission

To deliver within Sedgefield Borough an accessible advice service by providing people with information and support and to negotiate on their behalf when required.

The service is free, independent, impartial and confidential.

Generalist advice is available through weekly advice sessions at 11 locations. The Bureau also provides specialist Money Advice, a Health Advice Service and Sure Start Advice sessions.

Sedgefield & District Citizens Advice Bureau undertakes to individually respect any person seeking help and to respond to all enquiries in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner. All advisers are trained and supervised to standards laid down by Citizens Advice.

The Bureau will work to challenge injustice within the community and wherever possible will work in partnership with other organisations in a spirit of mutual co-operation.

Volunteers Needed

The Service dealt with 39,000 enquiries from clients in 2005/2006 and needs help from volunteers to deal with these enquiries. Volunteers form the backbone of the CAB service.

CAB staff come from all sorts of backgrounds. Qualifications are not necessary as full training, included IT training is given. Travel expenses are also paid.

The work of a volunteer can vary from a simple piece of benefit advice to making phone calls or writing letters.
