About Us

History and Background

Sedgefield & District Citizens Advice Bureau was established in 1959 originally as Newton Aycliffe CAB. It is a member of the National Association of Citizens Advice Bureau (Citizens Advice).

Sedgefield District Citizens Advice Bureau was created in partnership with Sedgefield Borough Council, the main Bureau funder, in 1986

The Service provides across the Borough

The Bureau also offers a home visiting service to severely disabled and elderly clients who are housebound and unable to attend a normal bureau session.

At this moment in time the Bureau does not offer advice by electronic means.

The Service is governed by a Memorandum and Articles of Association and has 15 Trustees, 2 Bureau Managers, 1 Funding Development Manager, 13 paid Advice Workers, 8 paid Clerical staff and 26 Volunteers including 2 In Bureau Guidance Tutors

Sedgefield & District Citizens Advice Bureau is a registered charity, number 1107261 and a Company Limited by Guarantee No. 5246450. The Bureau incorporated on 1st April 2005.

The registered office is 12, High Street, Spennymoor, Co Durham. DL16 6DB.

The CAB Service is subject to Charity Law and annual accounts are presented in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice on Accounting and Reporting by Charities SORP 2000 & 2005.
