About Us...

Sedgefield & District Citizens Advice Bureau is an independent charity based in Spennymoor and Newton Aycliffe serving the former borough of Sedgefield and the wider community of County Durham. The Citizens Advice service offers practical, up-to-date information and advice on a wide range of topics, including; debt, benefits, housing, legal, discrimination, employment, immigration, consumer and other problems.

Our advice is available to everyone regardless of race, gender, sexuality, age, nationality, disability or religion.

Additional projects include Sure Start funded advice and a Health Advice Service where clients are seen in GP surgeries and are referred into this service via health professionals.

In addition to generalist advice, we also provide specialist level advice in debt and welfare benefits (hyperlink) and via the Money Advice Service

The bureau first opened in 1959 when people's problems were a little different. It took ten years to fill the first day book (a register of clients' cases). Nowadays we deal with over 8000 enquiries a year!
